Music aptitude and home musical environment of kindergarten and first grade students

This study examined the relationship between the home musical environment and the music aptitude of children in kindergarten and first grade. The parents of each child were given a survey regarding the amount and types of musical experiences in the home, and the amount of parental involvement in the child's musical experiences. Each student's music aptitude levels were examined using a music aptitude test designed specifically for use with children ages five through eight. Results showed no significant connections between music aptitude and home musical environment in kindergarten and first grade children.
