Studies of Combined Electroweak and QCD Effects to the Charged Current Drell -Yan Process at Hadron Colliders

This thesis presents a new implementation of charged current Drell-Yan production at hadron colliders which includes a combination of NLO EW, NLO QCD and resummed soft IS gluon and FS photon radiation. The full [special characters omitted](α) NLO EW corrections of WGRAD2 are incorporated into the [special characters omitted](α s ) NLO QCD corrections to single W boson production of the POWHEG-BOX. The POWHEG formalism allows for the subsequent NLO (QCD + EW) unweighted events to be showered with the PYTHIA or HERWIG parton showers. The inclusion of resummed soft photon emission is new to WGRAD2 and is also included via the QED structure function approach. The effects of this combination on the distributions of p T (l) and M T ( W ) distributions from which the W boson mass can be extracted are studied. The resulting public Monte Carlo code will be made available as additions to the POWHEG-BOX:POWHEG-w + WGRAD2.
