Situational Etudes is a composition for Prepared Piano and Soprano Voice. It consists of 16 etudes and a larger work entitled Chaconne. The piano is prepared to explore the relationships between instrument (keyboard) interface, written music and sounding results in a variety of ways. The Etudes employ multiple compositional and structural techniques, including exhaustive list techniques, imitative techniques, and systems of symmetry among others with a strong focus on the harmonic series. The voice is used to emphasize the resonances of the piano and its preparations as well as highlight structural events within each etude.
