This study examined PTSD severity, alcohol craving, negative affect, concurrent cocaine dependence, and study condition as predictors of attrition in a comorbid posttraumatic stress disorder-alcohol dependent sample. A cue-reactivity experimental design was utilized to measure pretreatment alcohol craving and negative affect in response to in vivo alcohol cues and trauma imagery scripts. PTSD severity and concurrent cocaine dependence were assessed prior to the laboratory session. No significant differences were found across exposure and relaxation conditions or between completers and noncompleters. A nonsignificant associative trend ( p = .07) was found between negative affect and attrition. The results of this study are discussed in the context of existing theory and research, as well as study limitations.
