Nuclear factor I-X (Nfix) in brain development

The Nuclear Factor I (NFI) family is composed of four members in vertebrates, Nfia, Nfib, Nfic , and Nfix 1.2 . All of them are expressed in embryonic mouse brain, and Nfia, Nfib and Nfix are particularly highly expressed in developing neocortex 3 . This expression pattern indicates NFI's roles in brain development. In this thesis, several brain structure alterations in an Nfix knock-out mouse are presented. Analyzing serial sections from one Nfix knock-out mouse brain shows four major deficiencies including anterior lateral ventricle expansion, cingulate cortex enlargement in posterior brain, reduced myelination of the anterior commissure, and morphological changes in the septum.
