Micaela Bastidas A silenced leader
MetadataShow full item record
The purpose of this work is to reveal the neglected voice and perspective of Micaela Bastidas Puyucahua during the Tupac Amaru rebellion of 1780-1783. Little has been written about her yet she is the 2nd most documented individual involved in the rebellion other than Tupac Amaru himself. Micaela was not only the driving force behind the rebellion but a lead strategist. She had a key role, gave orders, worked as a propagandist as well as took care of the financial and logistical planning. Micaela was a huge asset to the rebellion, yet even with all her leadership qualities and contributions to the rebellion she has been overlooked or overshadowed in history. Scholars, historians and the retelling of traditional histories have marginalized Micaela. Because this dynamic and influential figure has been ignored it is clear that our perceptions of the rebellion have been altered. Her perception will change what we know about the rebellion and the people involved. I hope to challenge traditional histories on the rebellion by integrating Micaela Bastidas into the narrative where she rightfully belongs.
