ASDTab: A computer-vision based in-home asd assessment tool on unmodified tablet computers

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) receive lots of attention due to the increase of autistic cases globally in recent years. ASD early-detection is crucial to provide proper therapy and promote skill development. However, the diagnosis of ASD is challenging in a timely manner for the large-scale population because the current practice requires complicated clinical setups, which is costly and time-consuming. In this paper, we develop a new in-home ASD assessment tool, called ASDTab, which is low-cost, non-invasive and widely accessible. It can be deployed on any unmodified tablet computer with a front camera, and provide objective measurements for ASD diagnosis. We evaluate the system performance and perform the test on a real case study. The experimental results indicate that ASDTab is a promising tool for the ASD early-detection.
