dc.description.abstract"Gifts of the Gab" argues that quotation is the signature expression of late metrocolonial Ireland. The timespan flagged in the title reiterates the familiar periodization of the Irish literary field in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, but by translating these signal moments and the literary activity that they bookend into the terms of national copyright law enactment, the project locates Irish writing within the transatlantic copyright regimes in which Revivalists and modernists alike published. Individual chapters explore Irish literary production against the backdrop of shifting intellectual property climates operative at home and abroad.
