Multi-period capacitated recharging location planning for electric vehicles

We provide a new formulation of flow refueling location problem for electric vehicle, considering the capacity of rechargers and the time span of construction. The optimization model will help us determine the optimal location of rechargers as well as the number of recharging modules at each station over multiple time periods. The new formulation is based on covering each arc on the path as well as limiting the flow going though each node. We also present two heuristic methods to solve the optimization problem, and we combine termination strategy and line search method to improve computational time. A case study based on the Washington to Boston network is present to provide a comparison of performance between different methods and covering standards (VMT). Experiments on link coverage of the network are also conducted to show the trend of recharger and module construction as well as their impact on flow coverage.
