Microtensile bond strength of IvoBase resins and two commercially available denture teeth

INTRODUCTION: This study evaluated the effects of denture base acrylic and denture tooth type on the microtensile bond strength (µTBS) using two different commercially available denture teeth and two injection denture processing systems. MATERIALS and METHODS: Six experimental groups were formed (n=15), based on the denture base resin and the denture tooth type at the bonding interface. The six experimental groups were (SR-Ivocap High Impact /BlueLine, IvoBase Hybrid/BlueLine, IvoBase High Impact /BlueLine, SR-Ivocap High Impact / Phonares II, IvoBase Hybrid/ Phonares II, IvoBase High Impact / Phonares II). Rectangular bar specimens with a cross-sectional area of 1 mm 2 were fabricated and subsequently thermocycled for 5,000 cycles between 5°C and 55°C with a 15 sec dwell time. Selected specimens underwent µTBS testing in a Universal Testing Machine ( TC 2 – Dillon Quantrol – Charles S Freeman Co. Inc – USA ) with a 1 kN load cell at a 0.5 mm/min crosshead speed. The data were analyzed using two- way ANOVA. RESULTS: The results of the two-way ANOVA showed no significant main effect for tooth type (F 1 , 84 = 1.55, p = .217) or resin type (F 2 , 84 = 1.51, p = .228), and there was no significant interaction effect (F 2 , 84 = 1.40, p = .251). Regarding mode of failure, Phonares II tooth showed no adhesive failures; most of the failures were mixed in type. BlueLine DCL had some adhesive failures. BlueLine DCl with IvoBase High impact had either mixed (53%) or cohesive (47% ) failure. CONCLUSIONS: 1-There was no significant effect for tooth type or resin type and there was no significant interaction effect on the microtensile bond strength. 2- There was no difference in the bond strength of either BlueLine DCL or Phonares teeth with the Ivocap resin or IovoBase resins 3- IvoBase High Impact and BlueLine DCL had more cohesive failure than the other groups, which suggest that they exhibited better bond strength. 4- Phonares teeth with all type of resins had more mixed failures.
