Design and Synthesis of Metal Organic Frameworks for Applications in Lithium Ion Batteries

Following the initiative to build up structure-defined and graphene-like organic compounds with molecular precision, research efforts were made using bottom-up synthesis to screen out high-performance organic molecules and elucidate the structure-performance correlations for being anode materials for lithium ion batteries. In this work, metal organic frameworks with well-defined structures were synthesized and modified for better electrochemical performance. The final product exhibited excellent capacities and extended cycle life. During the research progress, a hypothetical explanation for unusual increase in capacity observed in cycle performance was also made and demonstrated.
